She died from arteriosclerosis on 14 September 1929 at the age of 87 in St. Louis, Missouri. Edward Breitenbach, son of Fred Breitenbach and Anna Luening, was born in 1858. He died on 11 December 1907 at the age of 49 in Franklin County, Missouri. She was buried on 24 August 1995 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Gildehaus, Franklin County, Missouri. Elfriede R. Sieve, 92, Villa Ridge, died August 21, 1995, at Cedarcrest Manor in Washington.

Miss Sieve, daughter of the late John Sieve and his wife Catherine, nee Otten, was born May 17,1903, at Villa Ridge. She received her education at the St. John's School at Gildehaus. She resided in the Gildehaus community her entire life.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, the Ladies Sodality, Charter member of St. John's Branch W.C.U. 268, St. John's Sewing Circle, past member of the Extension Club of Villa Ridge, and past treasurer of the National Catholic Women's Union Mission Group of Franklin County.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Sieve, November 27, 1951; her mother, Catherine Otten Sieve, November 8, 1910; her stepmother, Mary Theresa Kleinheider Sieve, May 27, 1919; one sister, Elenora Christina Sieve, November 18, 1918; one brother, Conrad J. Sieve, August 1, 1977.

She leaves to survive one brother, Anthony Sieve, Villa Ridge; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral mass was celebrated on August 24, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at Gildehaus with interment in the church cemetery.

The family was served by Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home, Washington.

Josephine Elisabeth Hobelmann, daughter of George Frederick (Fritz) Hobelmann and Maria (Mary) Anna Bauer, was born on 8 March 1877 in Union, Franklin County, Missouri Central Hotel. She died on 3 September 1962 at the age of 85 in St. Francis Hospital in Washington, Franklin County, Missouri. She was buried on 5 September 1962 in St. Mary's Cemetery in (Moselle), Villa Ridge, Franklin County, Missouri. Josephine E. Otten passed away on Sept 3, 1962 at St. Francis Hospital, Washington, Missouri.  She was born to the union of Fritz and Mary Bauer Hobelmann.
She was married to John Otten, who preceded her in death.  Children are Mrs. Henry Maupin, Ed Otten, Bill Otten, Henry Otten, all of St. Clair; Mrs. George Hagedorn of Villa Ridge and Mrs. Ed Feltmann of Creve Coeur, MO.  Two daughters preceded her in death.
Services were held Wednesday morning, September 5 at 9 a.m. from St. Mary's church, Moselle, MO with interment in the church cemetery.

        30 ix. Ella Sueann Otten was born on 1 July 1920 in Moselle, Franklin County, Missouri. She died from acute rheumatic fever on 9 February 1934 at the age of 13 in St. Francis Hospital in Washington, Franklin County, Missouri. She was buried on 12 February 1934 in St. Mary's Cemetery in (Moselle), Villa Ridge, Franklin County, Missouri. Ella Otten, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Otten of Moselle, MO, was born in that little town on July 1, 1920 and passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Washington, MO Friday February 9 at 5:00 a.m., having reached the age of 13 years, 7 months and 8 days.  She was a student in St. Mary's Catholic school at Moselle and was to have graduated from the eighth grade this spring. About two weeks before her death, she became ill and was taken to the hospital where she underwent an operation.  However, it did not prove of benefit to her and although everything in medical aid was used, Our Heavenly Father called her to her Eternal Home. Since the Sunday previous to her death, the child was resigned to the Will of God and said she knew she was not going to get well and told members of the family she was not afraid to die.  That her little soul may rest in peace, was the prayer offered in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at churches in this vicinity last Sunday.  Funeral services were held by Father Meler of St. Mary's church in Moselle Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock, with interment in the church cemetery.
Besides her parents, she is survived by four brothers, Fred, Edward, Henry and William; three sisters, Martha and Julia Otten and Mrs. Gertrude Maupin; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Description: lead mine in the southwest bend of the Bourbeuse River.  It was a new mine in 1888. It was named for George Otten on whose land it was located.

Married in St. Mary's Church at Moselle, Franklin County, Missouri by Rev. Father Charles Schaefer, Pastor of St. Anthony's Church, Sullivan, Missouri. Katherine Rose Hobelmann, daughter of George Frederick (Fritz) Hobelmann and Maria (Mary) Anna Bauer, was born on 2 July 1883 in Port Hudson, Franklin County, Missouri. She died on 14 November 1972 at the age of 89 in Sunset Nursing Home in Union, Franklin County, Missouri. She was buried on 17 November 1972 in St. Mary's Cemetery in (Moselle), Villa Ridge, Franklin County, Missouri.

Gildehaus, son of Henry Gildehaus and Elizabeth (Lissetta) Krull, was born on 16 September 1876 in Franklin County, Missouri. He died from chronic myocarditis on 1 August 1953 at the age of 76 in Manchester Nursing Home in Manchester, St. Louis County, Missouri. He was buried on 3 August 1953 in St. Mary's Cemetery in (Moselle), Villa Ridge, Franklin County, Missouri. Henry was a stationary engineer with Laclede Christy Clay Products.

William was a blacksmith. He sold his blacksmith shop in 1923 to R. Dryer.

22.  Fredrick John (Fred) Otten (John Christopher Charles-3, John-2, Male-1) was born on 10 February 1902 in Franklin County, Missouri. He died on 12 November 1953 at the age of 51 in Franklin County, Missouri. He was buried in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Lonedell, Franklin County, Missouri.
 
Fredrick John (Fred) Otten and Juanita B. Short were married on 13 February 1926. Juanita B. Short, daughter of Aaron P. Short and Tibbe Bell Johnson, was born on 8 February 1903 in St. Clair, Franklin County, Missouri. She died on 3 April 1987 at the age of 84 in Cedar Crest Manor in Washington, Franklin County, Missouri. She was buried in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Lonedell, Franklin County, Missouri. Juanita B. Otten Bozza, nee Short, of Washington, Missouri, passed away on Friday, April 3, 1987 at the Cedarcrest Manor and Nursing Home, Washington, Mo., having reached the age of 84 years, one month and 25 days. She was born at St. Clair, Mo. on February 8, 1903, daughter of the late Aaron P. Short and Tibbie Belle Johnson Short.

She was united in marriage to Fred Otten, and he preceded her in death. She was later married to James Bozza, and he also preceded her in death.

Surviving are four sisters, Delma Young and husband, Clarence, of Washington, Evelyn Schallenberg and husband, Walter, of Sullivan, Trecea Pierce of St. Clair, and Cecile Redhage of Scottsdale, Arizona; many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Bozza was also preceded in death by two brothers, Aaron Short, Jr. and John Robert Short; and two sisters, Mildred Otten and Irma Dixon Young.

She became a Christian at an early age and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Washington, Mo.

She was dearly loved by family and friends, and will be sadly missed by all who loved her.  Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 1987 at the First Baptist Church in Washington, Mo. with the Reverend Monty Shinkle officiating. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery.

She died on 19 October 1995 at the age of 91 in Sullivan, Franklin County, Missouri. She was buried on 20 October 1995 in St. Mary's Cemetery in (Moselle), Villa Ridge, Franklin County, Missouri.
 
Gertrude Walburga Otten and Henry Floyd Maupin were married on 5 February 1927. Henry Floyd Maupin was born on 23 April 1903. He died in July 1980 at the age of 77 in Franklin County, Missouri. He was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in (Moselle), Villa Ridge, Franklin County, Missouri.

24.  Edward George Otten (John Christopher Charles-3, John-2, Male-1) was born on 27 September 1906 in Franklin County, Missouri. He died on 6 March 1992 at the age of 85 in St. Clair, Franklin County, Missouri. He was buried on 9 March 1992 in St. Clare Catholic Cemetery in St. Clair, Franklin County, Missouri. George Edward Otten, known to most as "Ed," of St Clair was born on Sept 27, 1906 at Villa ridge, the son of the late John Charles Otten and Josephine Hobelmann Otten.

On Aug 19, 1928, he was united in marriage to Mildred Ray Short at St Mary's Church and one son came to bless this union. Ed died on March 6,at his home in St Clair, having reached the age of 85.

He is survived by one son Lloyd Otten of St Clair; by one grandson, Steve Otten of Catawissa; by one great-grandson, Josh Otten of St Charles; one brother, Bill Otten of St Clair; and by three sisters, Gertrude Maupin of St Clair, and Martha Feltmann and Julie Hagedorn, both of Villa Ridge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Otten; by two brothers, Henry and Fred Otten; and by two sisters, Ella and Atoinette Otten.

Ed was an active member of the St Clare Catholic Church in St Clair,as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus, St Clare Parish and a member of the St Clair Senior Citizens Center.  He had been employed by the International Shoe company in St Clair for over 35 years, in addition to owning and operating the Otten Service Station on North Main Street in St Clair.  He had many hobbies and interests, such as gardening, fishing, hunting, baseball, pitching, horseshoes and playing cards.

Funeral Mass was held March 9, at the St Clare Catholic Church, St Clair, with Father Al Mattler officiating. Interment was in St Clare Catholic Cemetery, St Clair. 27.  William Matthew Otten (John Christopher Charles-3, John-2, Male-1) was born on 10 January 1913 in Franklin County, Missouri. He died on 30 January 1999 at the age of 86 in Franklin County, Missouri. He was buried in St. Clare Catholic Cemetery in St. Clair, Franklin County, Missouri. Bill was of the Catholic faith and lifelong member of St. Clare Catholic Church.  He loved country music and was a member of the Country Music Club of Sullivan and also a member of the St. Clair Senior Citizens Center.

As a young man, he began his working career at St. Clair International Shoe Company in St. Clair, working there as a shoe cutter for 21 years.  He was later employed as a carpenter for Swan Construction Company, retiring in 1975.

Bill was an outdoorsman at heart and was happiest when he was active outside.  He liked to cut wood and go hunting and fishing, especially when the boys were with him.  He was an outgoing, fun-loving man and always had a tale to tell.  Dancing was another of his favorite pastimes and in recent years, he enjoyed riding his four-wheeler.  He was an avid baseball fan and even after his sight failed him and he couldn't watch the games, he listened to them with enthusiasm.

Retired Missouri Conservation Agent, Bill J. Otten, entered into rest at Manor Care Center in Kirksville, MO on Monday, August 7, 2017, having reached the age of 81.

He was the son of William and Lucille (Holdmeier) Otten of St. Clair, MO, born July 16, 1936 in St. Clair. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dennis in infancy, Terry, and Larry Otten.

Bill is survived by two sisters, Marilyn Smith of Crestwood, MO, and Luann Ferguson of Owasso, OK; former wife and dear friend Joyce Otten of Kirksville, and her daughter Joan McKervy of Washington, D.C., sisters-in-law Sharon Otten, and Donna Hendrix, brothers-in-law, George Smith and Ray Ferguson, two nephews, six nieces, eight great nephews, eight great nieces, cousins, and many, many friends.

While residing in St. Clair, Missouri, Bill served ten years with the Missouri National Guard. He retired from the MO Department of Conservation in September of 1995, having served with the department for 40 years. He started his career as a clerk dispatcher with Merrimac Forestry District in Sullivan, MO in 1955, then transferred to Salem, MO and was promoted to chief clerk of the Central Repair Shop for the Operations Division. Bill then relocated to Perryville where he worked as a forestry assistant.

In 1967 Bill entered the Conservation Agent Training class, and was assigned to Sullivan County upon graduation. In 1968, he transferred to Adair County where he served as the conservation agent for 20 years. In 1988 he was promoted to assistant regional supervisor and in 1993 was elevated to the position of regional supervisor of the North Central Region of the state. In the position he supervised 19 division employees in 15 counties from the main office in Kirksville.

Bill had also served as the president of the Missouri Conservation Agents Association (MCAA) in 1986 and also as the legislative chairman. In 1996 he received the Pioneer Award from the MACC for his involvement in creating the association and its by-laws, and for his work involving the House State Retirement Committee. The North Central Region "Agent of the Year" was awarded to him in 1970, 1971, and 1976.

During his retirement years, Bill was actively involved in local politics serving as treasurer of the Democratic Central Committee for 13 years, caring for his land, helping and serving friends and neighbors. He also traveled extensively, both before and after retiring.

It was Bill's wish to be cremated and A Celebration of his life will be held at Travis-Noe Funeral Home, 1008 W. Potter Ave., in Kirksville, on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Family will receive friends for one hour before the service in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.

33.  Elmer J. Otten (William M.-3, John-2, Male-1) was born on 20 July 1916 in Robertsville, Franklin County, Missouri. He retired in 1974. He died on 25 November 1997 at the age of 81. Elmer was buried on 28 November 1997 in St. Mary's Cemetery in (Moselle), Villa Ridge, Franklin County, Missouri. He was an Assembler at Ford Motor Company. Elmer J. Otten, 81, Villa Ridge, died Tuesday, November 25, 1997.  Mr. Otten was born July 20, 1916, at Robertsville, the son of William Otten and wife Julia Eckelkamp Otten. He received his schooling at St. Mary's Church School and grew up in the Villa Ridge area.  During WW II he served in the Army from 1941 to 1945, serving in the Western Pacific.

He was united in marriage to Doris Eagan November 6, 1941, at St. Mary's Church, Villa Ridge. They made their home at Villa Ridge. Mr. Otten was employed by the Ford Motor Company as an assembler until he retired in 1974. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and V.F.W.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Valley Otten; and one half-brother, Verlin Otten.  Mr. Otten is survived by his wife, Doris Otten, Villa Ridge; two sons, Donald Otten and wife Linda, Granite City, Illinois, and Daniel Otten and wife Cindy, Villa Ridge; two daughters, Shirley Frankenberg and husband Tom, Washington, and Barbara Peirick and husband Tony, Union; one half-brother, James Otten, Altus, Oklahoma; one half-sister, Loretta Schrader, Barnhart; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

After visitation was held Thursday, November 27, at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union, a Funeral Mass was held Friday, November 28, from St. Mary's Church, Villa Ridge, by Father Mike Oslance. Interment followed in the St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Villa Ridge.

Ralph Henry Schroeder, 83, Union, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009, in Washington.

Mr. Schroeder was born May 27, 1925, in Washington, the son of Henry Schroeder and wife Gertrude, nee Eckelkamp.
He was united in marriage Sept. 6, 1947, to Vera Vondera at St. Mary of Perpetual Help Church, Moselle.
Mr. Schroeder received his education at Holy Trinity School and Central High School, both in St. Louis.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy in the Philippine Liberation Campaign, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, New Guinea and Iwo Jima.
Mr. Schroeder was injured at Iwo Jima and received a Purple Heart.
He was employed as an optical lab technician.

Mr. Schroeder was a member of St. Mary's Church, Villa Ridge, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2661.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Schroeder; one grandson, Steven Schroeder; and one brother, Al Schroeder.

 Mrs. Nevills-Heckelmann, daughter of Henry Maupin and wife Gertrude, was born Sept. 5, 1929, in St. Clair.  On Sept. 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to David Nevills in St. Clair.

Mrs. Nevills-Heckelmann was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Gertrude Maupin; her husband, David Nevills; two sons, Harold Nevills and Gary Nevills; one brother, Eldon Maupin; two sisters, Norma Pope and Clarita Maupin; one grandson, Glenn David Jr.; and one son-in-law, Wayne Moorman.

She is survived by three sons, Glenn Nevills and wife Nancy, Randy Nevills and wife Judy, all of Villa Ridge, and Mike Nevills and wife Jodi, Granite City, Ill.; three daughters, Linda Bost and husband Terry, Union, Kathy Stoneking and husband Tom, St. Clair, and Mary Lou Buschin and husband Robert, Advance, N.C.; two daughters-in-law, Christine Nevills, Washington, and Karen Nevills, Union; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one aunt; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.

David was united in marriage to Ruth Weppner on April 5, 1975 at Sullivan, Missouri.

David was a "Jack of all trades"; he could work on anything with a motor and fix it. He could build anything, make anything and an excellent cook. He attended the 1st Assembly of God Church of Owensville for the past couple of years.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Velma Nevills; two sons, Harold Ray and Gary Dean Nevills; one grandson, Glen David Nevills, Jr.; two granddaughters, Ariel and Chelsey Nevills; two sisters, Dora Loyd and Pauline Thompsons.

Mr. Otten was raised in the Catholic faith.  He served his country as a sergeant in the Missouri National Guard, receiving his honorable discharge on November 22, 1968, after more than 20 years of service.  He owned and operated Otten Texaco on North Main Street in St. Clair for about 35 years.

Mr. Otten was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Otten.  He is survived by his son, Steve Otten, Catawissa; one grandson, Josh Otten; his daughter-in-law, Mary Otten, Union; aunts; uncles; other relatives and many friends.  Funeral services were held Friday, September 27, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with Reverend Don Covington officiating.  Interment was in St. Clare Catholic Cemetery, St. Clair.  Memorials to American Heart Association are preferred.  The Otten family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.

Kenneth was a corporal in the Army National Guard at time of his death.  It was the Heavy Mortar Company, 138 Infantry Division Missouri National Guard in St. Clair, Missouri.  He died in a truck accident on highway 50, one quarter mile west of Leslie, Missouri.  He fell asleep at the wheel while driving.  He died when he crushed his head. Per death certificate.  He was given a military funeral at 9 a.m. thursday May 31, 1956 at St. Clare Catholic Church

Funeral services were conducted at St. Clare Catholic Church in St. Clair, Missouri on thursday morning May 31, 1956 for Kenneth Eugene Otten, who died in an accident near Leslie, Missouri on Monday, May 28, 1956.  Monsignor Aloys Stumpf officiated with interment in Saint Marys cemetery at Moselle, Missouri.  Kenneth was born in St. Clair on August 27, 1930 the son of Henry Otten and his wife Bertha.  He attended St. Clair Schools.  On October 22, 1955 he was married to Wilma Nugent.  He is survived by his wife, Wilma and his parents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Otten.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (nee Inukai) Otten; siblings, Bill Otten, Marilyn (George) Smith, Luann (Ray) Ferguson; brother-inlaw, Gerry (Leslie) Inukai, and 10 nieces and nephews. He was a great-uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Larry was a proud member of the US Marines and served in the Vietnam Conflict as one of the first soldiers sent at the age of just 17. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was a Medal of Valor recipient. He also received honors for sharp shooting and good conduct. Larry received a bachelor's degree from Central MO State and worked for Jefferson-Smurfit where he retired. He and his wife loved to travel the US and aboard. He also loved golf, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. Larry was forever optimistic with a will of iron. SEMPER FI! She is survived by three children, Mark Pope and wife Kristi, Washington, Kelly Hawkins, and Lisa Robinson and husband Brien, all of Jefferson City; one brother, Kenny Pope and wife Judy, Washington; four sisters, Patricia Isgriggs and husband Jason Sr., Union, Darlene Davis, Sarasota, Florida., Judy Boisselle, Vancouver, Wash., and Debbie Willhelm, Washington; 13 grandchildren; her boyfriend, Bob Schiller, Washington; five great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Norma Pope, and one brother, Jimmy Pope.

Ezekiel was born June 28, 2005, in Creve Coeur, the son of Wyatt Edward Otten and wife Melissa Ann, nee Wright.   He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Terrance Raymond Otten; and his great-grandparents, William and Lucille Otten, Donald Enloe and Winford Fears.

Ezekiel is survived by his parents, Wyatt and Melissa Otten, St. Clair; one brother, Easton Terrance Otten, St. Clair; his grandparents, Donna Mae Hendrix and husband Wayne and Dave and Karen Wright, all of St. Clair; his great-grandparents, Rose Enloe, St. Clair, Vernon and Rosetta Stevenson, Vulcan, Pete Wright, Hillsboro, and Barbara Lohmeyer and husband William, De Soto; aunts; uncles; great- and great-great-aunts and -uncles; cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 24, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with Pastor Tom Ison and Pastor Jerry Cuneio officiating.  Interment was in Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union.  Memorials to the family are preferred.  The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
