Johann Anton Giesing was born on July 17, 1834 at Rhedebrugge, Germany and died on January 7, 1908 at Rhedebrugge, Germany. He married on July 11, 1860 in Borken,  Germany Johanna Christine Deming who was born 1833 in Barlo, Germany and died  April 9, 1905. Their child was John Gerhard Giesing. John Gerhard came to Cleveland,  Ohio  was a carpenter, (in the year 1900 lived at 262 Harbor Street, Cleveland, Ohio)  and then moved to California.

John Gerhard Giesing was born April 16, 1861 in Germany and died July 30, 1938 at  San Diego, California and is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery. John married Anna Christine Dorenkott on November 26, 1895. Anna Christine was born April 11, 1875 in Ohio and died October 24, 1920. She was the daughter of Henry (Heinrich) Dorenkott (carpenter) born in Germany March 16, 1834 died July 26, 1896 and Christina  (Effenbrook or Ebbenbrock) Dorenkott born September 14, 1833 died November 30, 1893.

Henry and Christina were married January 9, 1859 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.   Both are in Burton Street ( St. Mary) Cemetery Cleveland, Ohio.   Henry died from Consumption (tuberculosis) and Christina died from Pulmonary Edema.   Henry and Christina had another daughter Mary born about 1862 in Ohio.

John Gerhard and Anna Christine's children were:

Carl Joseph Giesing born July, 13, 1897 in Cleveland, Ohio died November 1977 in  San Diego, California. He was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery. He married to Virginia  Howell on July 28, 1943. Virginia was born about 1884 and died September 1963.

Joseph Gerhard Giesing born September 10, 1898 in Cleveland, Ohio died June 1988  in San Diego, California. (Single) He was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Alban Leonard Giesing born March 4, 1900 in Cleveland, Ohio died October 26, 1978  in San Diego, California. He was married to Katherine Helen Buechner on September 5,1925. Katherine was born on January 2, 1905 at Detroit, Michigan and died July 11, 1990 in San Diego, California. Both are in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Rosa Marie Giesing was born December 19, 1901 and died in 1903.

Rosemary Elizabeth Giesing born January 6, 1905 died September 5, 1987 in  San Diego, California. She was married to Oscar Charles DeMent on June 25,  1927. Oscar was born April 23, 1901 and died April 2, 1966 in San Diego, California.    Both are buried in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Children are: John Charles Dement born  May 14, 1928, Richard Thomas Dement born October 25, 1929, Mary Patricia Dement born February 23, 1931, Shirley Lois Dement born July 27, 1932, Donald William  Dement born January 4, 1935, Robert Raymond Dement born December 25, 1936  and died February 20, 2006, Ruth Estelle Dement born February 8, 1940, Joseph  Martin Dement born May 20, 1942, Jerry Steven Dement born January 27, 1944  and Silvia Kathleen Dement born March 31, 1945.

Remigius Martin Giesing was born November 9, 1906 and died October 13, 1985.   Buried in Mount Hope Cemetery. He was married to Nadine M. E. Skinner on July 18, 1936.   Nadine was born August 18, 1916 in Lawton, Oklahoma and died July 20, 2001 in Lemon Grove, California. They were members on St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. At the time of Nadine's death there were five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Children are: Joseph Paul Giesing born June 9, 1937 living in Fountain Valley, Ca.,  John Louis Giesing born August 2, 1938 living in Alhambra, Ca.,  Helen Marie Giesing born December 29, 1939 married to LaBlanc and living in  San Diego, Ca. and Stephen Charles Giesing born September 26, 1947 living in  Lemon Grove, Ca.

Lillian Martha Giesing was born December 12, 1911 in San Diego, California and died October 13, 1992. (Single)

Charlotte Leona Giesing born September 18, 1913 in San Diego, California.   She died November 21, 1997. (Single)

Margaret Theresa Giesing was born January 2, 1927 in San Diego, California  and is married to William A. Holland who was born in San Diego. They have  three boys and three girls.

Children are: Marie Therese Holland born October  24, 1950, William Francis Holland born November 27, 1951, Annette Louise Holland born January 5, 1953, Anthonie Elaine Holland born April 29, 1955,  John T. Holland born January 23, 1959 and Donald B. Holland born September 2, 1962.

Anthony Alban Giesing was born June 24, 1929 in San Diego, California and is a Msgr. at a parish in San Diego.

Francis (Frank) John Giesing was born February 8, 1931 in San Diego, California  and died February 19, 2002 in Joshua Tree, San Bernardino County, California was married to Joan Louise Erickson who was born on January 14, 1933 in San Diego and died July 18, 2013 in Joshua Tree, California. They have three boys and two girls.

Children are: Mary Denise Giesing born July 8, 1956, Anthony G. Giesing born September 6, 1958, Eric M. Giesing born July 26, 1960 living in Port Hueneme, California. Frank M. Giesing born January 4, 1962 and Anita Therese Giesing born May 5, 1963 who married Gary Link.

Thomas Louis Giesing was born July 8, 1932 in San Diego, California and is single.   Has a business near Beaver, Utah.

Donald Robert Giesing was born March 14, 1934 in San Diego, California and is married to Josephine Ann Maloney who was born in San Diego.

Four children are: Maureen Lydia Giesing born July 7, 1963 married to Patrick  Harold Blomberg; Therese Katherine Giesing born August 17, 1964 married to  Robert Edwin Springs; Donald Joseph Giesing born October 17, 1966 married to  Michele Kristen Grutzeck and their children are Claire born 1996 and Madeline born 2002 living in Escondido, CA, Bernadet Marie Giesing born November 25, 1969 married to Mark Wayne Welle. They live in Poway, CA.

Katherine Ann Giesing was born September 30, 1935 in San Diego, California and is married to Edward Baumann and they have three boys and one girl.

Philip Raymond Giesing was born June 24, 1937 in San Diego, California and is married to Carol Meredith and they have two boys and one girl living in Poway, CA.

Three children are: Philip A. Giesing born February 14, 1964, Meredith Anne Giesing born May 30, 1965 and Brennan A. Giesing was born March 5, 1967 living in Escondido, CA.

Bernard Wayne Giesing was born March 4, 1941 in San Diego, California and is married to Patricia Sullivan who was born in San Diego and they have four boys.

Children are: Michael E. Giesing born June 19, 1963, Stephen W. Giesing born December 21, 1964, Joseph A. Giesing born May 11, 1968 and Paul T. Giesing born March 10, 1971.

Anita Marie Giesing was born September 1, 1943 in San Diego, California and is married to Dr. Joseph Leison and they have one boy and two girls.

David Paul Giesing was born June 5, 1945 in San Diego, California and died on January 19, 2013 was married to Trudy Roepke in 1971 (divorced in 1985) and the children are John, Heidi and Lucas Giesing. He was a sheet metal worker. Burial in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in San Diego, California.

Meredith Anne Giesing (daughter of Philip Raymond Giesing) married Daniel Good Sr. and their children are a daughter Gabrielle Good born in 1984, a son Wade Good born in 1986, a son Sean Good born in 1994, a son Daniel Good Jr. born in 1998, a son Samuel Good born in 1999 and a son Jordan Good born in 2001.

David Paul Giesing
June 5, 1945-January 19, 2013

David Paul Giesing was born on June 5, 1945 in San Diego, California, the youngest child of Alban and Katherine Giesing. Dave had three older sisters, Tess, Pet and Anita, and seven older brothers, Tony, Tom, Frank, Don, Dan, Philip and Bernie. He went to Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and Saint Augustine High School. After graduation, he followed in the footsteps of several of his brothers and entered the sheet metal trade where he worked a 26 year career.

In 1971, Dave married Trudy Roepke, and the couple moved into a little house in Lakeside. They went on to have three children, John, Heidi and Lucas, before divorcing in 1985.

Dave was very intellectual and he had a love for reading and learning. He was particularly interested in science, astronomy and archeology. An amateur archeologist himself, Dave loved going hunting for fossils in the canyons and cliffs along the San Diego coastline. He acquired quite a collection of unique and beautiful fossils over the years.

Dave loved working with his hands and enjoyed carpentry as a hobby, building cabinets, chests and shelves for his family. He also had an affinity for the earth, and was known for the amazing tomatoes that came out of his garden. Dave enjoyed all types of music, and played the drums in several garage bands. His favorite genre of music was classic rock-and-roll, and he will be remembered by many for his funny interpretations of his favorite song, "Louie Louie" by The Kingsmen. Later in life, after his retirement from the sheet metal trade, he turned his love of music and skills as a craftsman into a second career, building banjos for Deering Banjo.
What Dave enjoyed most in his later years was the relationships he developed with his grandchildren, Elias, Hannah, Ben, Charlie and Samuel. He loved holding and cuddling the little ones, and spent a lot of time with the bigger kids after school and on the weekends. He took them on bike rides, taught them about math and drafting, read books to them about dinosaurs and fossils and showed them how to use tools and build forts in his backyard. Dave was one cool Grampa.

On January, 19, 2013 Dave died at the age of 67 after a two year battle with small cell lung cancer. He is survived by his three children, five grandchildren, nine brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Frank.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, at Goodbody Mortuary, San Diego, with a rosary at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 1, at Santa Sophia Catholic Church, Spring Valley. After the Mass, burial will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, San Diego. Reception to follow at Santa Sophia Catholic Church.

Joan Louise Giesing was a homemaker for 60 years. Joan is survived by her daughter Anita Therese Link and son-in-law Gary Link, daughter Mary Denise Giesing, son Tony Giesing, son Frank Giesing, son Eric Giesing, Brother Jamie Erickson and 3 grandchildren.
